So the much delayed birthday posts continue! We’re on part 3, the penultimate of a celebration saga.
On my birthday I spent the day in London. I had afternoon tea at The Ritz (post coming…. soon?) and had dinner at Searcys at The Gherkin.
I can’t express how much I love a good view in a restaurant, be that amazing decor or an epic skyline through a window. London has a few view hotspots and The Gherkin is definitely one of them.
My top tip for booking anything like The Shard, Heron Tower or The Gherkin is have a little google search and find out what time sunset is on the day you’re planning on going and book your table a little earlier than that. This will ensure you get to see the sunset and watch the skyline transition from day to night. Pair that with amazing food and a London backdrop and it’s basically magic.
I walked in to the restaurant during sunset. The whole restaurant is surrounded by glass and all the tables are next to the window so you have amazing views wherever you’re sat.
Just look at the colours!
Before I had any food I had a mocktail and just took in the view.
Next order of business: the food.
Hands down THE BEST chicken dinner I’ve ever had. EVER. Sorry Mom.
The halal chicken was ordered in advance and so the meal wasn’t on the menu. I’ll save you from having to read my “I watch MasterChef so I’m basically a culinary genius” attempt at describing my dinner because I may have emailed the head chef and asked for an accurate account of what was on my plate instead. I can tell you I had: chicken breast with creamy potatoes, heritage carrots, broccoli, shallot puree, buckwheat and a chicken jus.
I could never have identified the buckwheat or the shallot puree. My fine dining palate clearly needs refining!
For dessert I was given a little dessert platter with a chocolate plaque saying happy birthday on it, some honeycomb and raspberries. My actual dessert was chocolate pudding with icecream.
The food is amazing, the views are stunning and the service is brilliant. If you’re interested in heading there yourself I’ve left links to the restaurant below!
